Broadcast and Live Coverage

The National Basketball Association, a major North American sports league, has a long history of partnering with US television networks. In its 8th season (1953-54), the NBA signed a contract with DuMont, marking the first time the NBA had a national television broadcaster. NBC took over NBA rights due to a lack of television stations, starting the next season until April 7, 1962, marking their first tenure with the NBA. After the contract expired, Sports Network Incorporated, later known as the Hughes Television Network, signed up for two-year coverage in the 1962-63 and 1963-64 seasons. ABC acquired the NBA in 1964 and aired its first game in 1965. However, CBS won broadcast rights after the 1972-73 season, ending its tenure in 1973.

NBA In-season Tournament

The NBA is updating its logo globally, marking the first update in 48 years, for use in various aspects of its global and online presence.

The NBA’s core logo, which debuted in 1969, will be updated with a modified Action font and red and blue hues, showcasing the game and its athletes.

The league’s secondary logo will be updated with a revised typeface and colors, featuring the letters N-B-A alongside logon.

NBA Chief Marketing Officer Pam El praised the modernized look as a balance between honoring the iconic logo and adapting to evolving digital and media landscapes.

The primary NBA logo will debut at the 2017 Summer League in Las Vegas, with updates rolling out. The global refresh includes logos on digital, social media, broadcast, events, and merchandise.

Fan Engagement

The group discussed strategies for engaging fans directly through User Generated Content (UGC) to involve them in the storytelling process. Genecov shared an example of the Mavericks requesting fans to imitate Luka Doncic’s stepbacks and celebrations, which he appreciated and shared on his social media. Greenfly enabled the team to collect and share fan content swiftly, a crucial feature during the early pandemic when daily content posting was still required, even without basketball games.

Standing and points

The 2023-24 NBA regular season will feature 80 games per team, with a game-by-game updated point chart providing information on each team’s games played, remaining games, playoff spots, play-ins and outs from the Eastern and Western Conferences for the upcoming postseason round.

The playoffs are limited to sixteen league teams from thirty teams, with eight teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences each. The six highest point-getters from both conferences will advance to the playoffs, where four teams from each conference play in the play-in tournament, and two winning teams earn the 7th and 8th seed.

The No. #1 team in the NBA is determined by the winning team with the highest points in a season from East and West conferences. The 2024 playoff birth, current NBA team power ranking, play-in-round position, and worst basketball team are all important details.
